Insanity - Week 1

February 4 was the start date for O`ahu's Thinner Winner, sponsored by Tsunami Fit Club in Hawaii. I signed up with 3 friends from work, and along with 8 other teams, we are working our butts off for 30 days, in hopes of taking home the GRAND PRIZE of $1000!

I'm using Insanity for my program of choice, coordinating my "Day 1" with the Feb. 4 start date, which makes it easy to remember. So far, Day 1 was the Fit Test, which was "BEAST", as my son would say. I took my before pics, jotted down my measurements and fit test results, and away we go!

Here is the schedule for Week One:

Day 1: Fit Test
Day 2: Plyometric Cardio Circuit
Day 3: Cardio Power and Resistance
Day 4: Cardio Recovery
Day 5: Pure Cardio (on tap for tomorrow morning)
Day 6: Plyometric Cardio Circuit
Day 7: REST DAY (AHHHHH!!)

Notice a common theme here?  It's a carnival of CARDIO!!! And then some...

Well, I'm currently surviving and haven't missed a day (it's still week one), but let me tell you this workout is tough. I have very limited time in my day, so my current plan is to wake up at 4:30 a.m. to begin by 4:45.  Let me be honest, this doesn't always happen, but at the latest, I need to start by 5:00 (I love my snooze button...), so I can finish the workout, shower, get my son up for school, and leave the house on time.

I'm also drinking Shakeology as a supplement, and making sure I eat 5 modest meals a day. I'm only drinking water, skim milk, and once in awhile a small glass of OJ in the morning. Oh, and sometimes green tea during the day. NO soda, NO alcohol...especially during the 30 day challenge, but hopefully also during the entire 60 day program. Other than that, I'm not "strict" about the recommended nutrition plan, but I am watching my portions and being smart about the fuel (aka calories) I'm putting into my body.

So far, my body is a little sore, mostly in the calves and hamstrings. Today I felt a little ambitious and did my morning "Day 4: Cardio Recovery" in the a.m. and tried Cardio Abs in the p.m. a couple hours after dinner. My abs may be yelling at me tomorrow, asking for forgiveness...

  1. I'm starting Insanity this coming Monday!!! I am excited for the challenge, cleanse, and clarity. My sister has done a couple of weight loss competitions with coworkers and lost quite a bit of weight and gained quite a bit of money! She is competitive and committed! :0) -Lindsay
